Gordon Class Heavy Ramming Frigate
The Gordon Class Ramming Frigate is a specialized frigate developed by the Earth Empire Navy based off Skregg designs.

Development
Edit
The Gordon Project was spearheaded at Earth Shipyards shortly after the beginning of Ga'Delr'Mahk's War. The first ship to enter the Earth-Link was brutally rammed by a massive Skregg cruiser. Utilizing the idea themselves, the Earth Empire Navy joined with Kusan Technologies to co-develop a small but heavily armored "ramming" frigate. The Gordon, the first ship of her class, was rushed into service during the Battle of Hallix. The small frigate was successful in destroying three Skregg cruisers and pushing multiple others away from the planet until reinforcements arrived. The hero story of the Gordon ensured that many more of these heavy frigates would be produced during and after the Skregg War.
Ramming Modes
Edit
The Gordon has two types of ramming modes: battering ram mode and blade mode. There has also been a third "missile mode," though this is incredibly unorthodox.
Battering Ram Mode
Edit
In Battering Ram mode, the ship's front end would be closed up to produce a sort of rounded hammerhead shape. This mode is often used to push large frigates away or to take out swarms of fighters.
Blade Mode
Edit
This mode allows the hammer head at the front of the frigate to open up and produce a powerful blade which can cut clean through almost any capital ship, if the frigate itself is propelled at the right speed.
"Missile" Mode
Edit
While incredibly unorthodox by Empire standards, the "Missile" mode of the ramming frigate involves it being launched by several large catapult-type planetary cannons. This was only seen once during the Invasion of Kusted, where the frigates were used like missiles to destroy Skregg invaders. The tactic failed to stop the Skregg from overtaking the planet, however, it did leave many of the Skregg ships destroyed.
Other Features of Interest
Edit
The ramming frigate is also equipped with two small beam cannons, one on the top in front of the cockpit, and the other on the bottom. The ship needs at most three crew members to operate, but in emergencies, can be operated entirely by one person. They are also relatively small and easy to produce, making it a low cost defense solution.
Due to their incredible speed, these ramming frigates have sometimes been called upon to tow derelict or heavily damaged ships away from battle, giving them the roles of secondary haulers.
